Why Earthing is Beneficial & How it Impacts Health

Earthing also known as grounding is where we have bodily contact with the Earth’s natural electric charge which benefits the physiology at a profound level reducing inflammation, pain, and stress.  It improves blood flow, energy, and sleep as well as generating greater well-being.  These effects often occur very rapidly.

Humans have strolled barefoot on the Earth, slept on the ground, and received in return from the Earth a natural, nurturing, and gentle electric energy.  Modern lifestyle has increasingly separated us from this flow of energy by wearing insulating rubber or plastic soled shoes that block the flow.  And obviously, most of us don’t sleep on the ground as we did in the past.  The disconnection from this natural resource right under our feet may likely be one of the overlooked factors behind the alarming rise of chronic disease in recent decades.  Inflammatory-related conditions in particular.

The moment your feet touch the Earth, your physiology changes.  The body immediately normalizes and the anti-inflammatory switch is turned on.  People stay inflamed because they never connect with the Earth and Earth is a source of free electrons which can neutralize the free radicals in the body that cause disease and cellular destruction.

Have you ever spent time in nature either on the beach with your feet in the sand or camping where you are in close contact with the Earth?  How did you feel after those experiences?  My guess is that you felt very grounded upon your return to the “real world”.  It is very important that we get in nature and get primal.  Listen and watch.  If you pay attention you will often learn a lot by just observing what nature is doing whether it be animals, plants, weather, geological processes, and other things in the world that are not man-made.

Earthing is so simple!  Walking barefoot outdoors and/or using inexpensive grounding systems indoors while sleeping or sitting restores the lost but needed connection with the Earth.  Studies suggest there is wide evidence of physiological improvements when the body is grounded versus non-grounded.

Benefits of Earthing/Grounding

  • Improvement of many inflammation-related disorders
  • Reduction or elimination of chronic pain
  • Better sleep and falling asleep faster
  • Increased energy
  • Lowered stress, and more calmness by cooling down the nervous system and stress hormones
  • Normalization of the body’s biological rhythms
  • Thinner blood, improved blood pressure and flow
  • Muscle tension and headache relief
  • Lessened hormonal and menstrual symptoms
  • Dramatically faster healing
  • Accelerated recovery from intense athletic activity

To quickly experience Earthing, just walk or sit barefoot on grass, sand, gravel, or unpainted concrete – any ground surface that conducts energy.  Wood, asphalt, and plastic do not conduct.  Be and stay for at least a half-hour and at the end of that time, you will notice you are calmer, and if you had pain it may be less or gone.

Grounding is a lifestyle medicine that can greatly assist in whatever your approaches are to healing your health.
